Regular Catch Basin Maintenance will help the Environment

For best operating results, catch basins must be cleaned on a schedule. Regular maintenance improves drainage to help prevent localized flooding, keeps pipes from becoming clogged, and reduces the risk of sediment and debris flowing into a lower mainland river or stream. Vacuum pump service from Edenflo will remove sediment, decaying organic material, and associated pollutants. This will benefit water quality and our environment. Many pollutants, such as metals, attach to sediment. If this sediment is allowed to flow to a stream, those pollutants can contaminate the water and may harm fish, other aquatic organisms, and eventually the rest of the food chain.

Catch Basins Need Cleaning and Simple Preventive Maintenance to Function Well

If you are a property manager, and want to minimize surprises regarding your drainage infrastructure, these 4 steps will help to set you up for success.

1. Be on the lookout for potential problems with the catch basins or drains on properties under your management. Trouble may come in the form of water pooling around the basin, slow draining, or debris covering the grate.
2. A preventive strategy to keep storm drains (catch basins) from clogging is the most effective method to protect your real estate. If you see debris on top of the grate, safely remove it. A reminder to never attempt to remove the storm grate yourself, only the debris on top. Call the pros at EdenFlo if further action is required.
3. If you see a catch basin that is not draining correctly on a well-used parking lot, or a blind corner in your underground parkade, do not attempt to clear it yourself. Instead, contact the experts at EdenFlo to manage the situation with safety first in mind.
4. Have EdenFlo assess your catch basin cleaning needs to help you to be the most efficient with your maintenance spend. Chances are, routine scheduled cleaning will eliminate all but the most unpredictable emergencies.

Lower Mainland Contractors Concerned about the Environment Choose HydroVac Service over Backhoe.

Based on recent weather events, we are all paying more attention to the environment. Lower mainland contractors and property managers want to do the right thing when it comes to picking vendors that have a smaller environmental impact. Most are moving to HydroVac service rather than backhoe to expose underground assets. Hydro excavation is less invasive and more precise, making it less harmful to the environment. Because the footprint is smaller than a backhoe excavation, there is less risk of damaging the land and ecosystems near the project. Hydro excavation uses high pressure water – rather than chemicals or other dangerous materials, which is an environmental plus. When the job is done the scars are smaller than a mechanical dig – allowing the land to heal quicker.

Video Line Inspection – Find Issues Quickly in Your Drainage System.

A popular EdenFlo service among plumbing and construction contractors and commercial and residential property owners is our Video Line Inspection Service. Seeing is believing. This saves time and money for everyone as the process is both efficient and effective. Atmospheric River Causes Big Drainage Issues

We are known for rain on the lower mainland, but when an atmospheric river descends on the region, even the most hearty feel a bit overwhelmed. The event last week caused creeks to swell and pick up wood debris and gravel that blocked culverts, catch basins and drainage channels. The resulting flooding created many challenges for Vancouver and surrounding areas.

Even well maintained catch basin systems can be compromised by mother nature. When it happens to your parking lot or underground parkade, give the experts at Edenflo Pump Truck Service a call. Our extensive fleet of vacuum trucks and other equipment means that we can respond quicker and take care of your catch basin issues.

As Rain and Wind Events Become More Intense, Your Catch Basins Need Attention

It’s no secret that our climate on the lower mainland is changing, with our rain and wind events becoming more intense. A steady rain is usually no problem for a catch basin or drainage system, but an intense rain event that dumps a large amount of precipitation will overwhelm catch basins that may be partially blocked due to sporadic servicing.

Intense wind will move more debris in less time into lower areas – including your drainage system. This will create a blockage in your catch basin, that when the rains come will result in flooding.

Getting to a flooded catch basin can be incredibly difficult after an intense storm. Invariably customers and pedestrians will be inconvenienced by parking lots and or road closures.

Do what you can to mitigate the risk of catch basin issues by calling the experts at Edenflo Pump Truck Service to set up a scheduled maintenance program of your catch basins. Preventive maintenance on your drains and catch basins should be performed regularly year round in your underground garages. However, fall is a priority as when the rains come, they will be a test for your drainage system. Debris will find its way into your catch basins and will affect the rate of drainage.
